Kitchen renovations in Matadepera carried out by Solera Reformas

Kitchen renovations in Matadepera

For houses on residential estates and flats in the village centre. We design the layout with you, give you a fixed quote and a schedule of works with dates from day one, and our own team takes care of everything, from demolition to fitting the worktop.

Kitchen renovations in Matadepera cost between €2,500 and €6,000 for a basic job (without touching the plumbing or wiring), between €8,000 and €15,000 for a mid-range one and from €15,000 for a full kitchen renovation with a new layout. The work takes 3 to 20 working days, plus the time needed to make the units. To change units and services without moving any walls, you only need to submit a prior notification, and the Town Council charges 4% ICIO tax.

Renovating the kitchen of a house in Matadepera

In Matadepera many homes are on residential estates, and the kitchen of a house offers more possibilities than one in a flat. These are the points we raise in all our kitchen renovations in Matadepera from the first visit:

  • Open-plan kitchen: opening it up to the living or dining room is the most popular request in houses. Before knocking down the wall we check whether it's load-bearing, because that changes the paperwork and the timescale.
  • Island or peninsula: with enough space, an island adds worktop, storage and somewhere to eat. It needs at least a metre of clear space all round so you can move about comfortably.
  • Gas or induction: if the kitchen runs on gas, the renovation is the time to decide whether to switch to induction. If you do, we check your contracted electrical power, which may fall short.
  • Pantry and storage: a house usually has room for a pantry cupboard or full-height tall units that wouldn't fit in a flat.
  • Second home: if the house isn't your main residence, we carry out the work while you're away and hand it over with the appliances up and running.
  • Access for materials: units and worktops arrive in large pieces. On narrow or steep streets we plan the unloading and the skip.

If you live in a flat, the priorities change: space matters more, the soil stacks and extraction ducts belong to the building, and you have to respect the residents' community's working hours. We work on both types of home.

Types of kitchen renovation in Matadepera

Depending on what you want to change, the work will be one of these three types. During the visit we tell you which one your kitchen needs.

Basic renovation

We change what you can see without touching the services or the layout: unit doors or kitchen units, worktop, appliances, wall and floor finishes or lighting. 3 to 5 working days on site.

Mid-range renovation

New kitchen units and new plumbing and wiring, keeping the current layout. 6 to 10 working days on site.

Full kitchen renovation

Everything is redesigned: new layout, opening up to the living room if you want, all-new services, flooring, wall finishes, units, worktop and appliances. A full kitchen renovation takes 10 to 20 working days on site.

Kitchen renovation prices and quotes in Matadepera

The price depends on the type of renovation, the size of the kitchen and the range of units, worktop and appliances.

Type of renovationGuide priceDays on siteTotal timescale
Basic (no changes to plumbing or wiring)€2,500 – €6,0003–5 working days2–4 weeks
Mid-range (units and services, same layout)€8,000 – €15,0006–10 working days4–6 weeks
Full (new layout)€15,000 – €25,00010–20 working days6–8 weeks

Prices for an average-sized kitchen. With high-end finishes or in large kitchens, a full renovation can reach €45,000.

What makes the price go up or down

The length of units in linear metres, the worktop material, whether the services need renewing, whether the kitchen is opened up to the living room and the range of appliances. We recommend setting aside 10–15% of the budget for contingencies.

What our kitchen renovation quote looks like

After the visit, which is free, we send you a fixed written quote with every item broken down and the schedule of works with dates. No extra items appear halfway through the work. You can also pay for the renovation in instalments.

How long a kitchen renovation takes, stage by stage

The work in your home takes days; what lengthens the total timescale is making the kitchen units, which starts while the design is being finalised.

StageUsual duration
Design and planning1–2 weeks
Making the units (in parallel)3–6 weeks from the order
Demolition and rubble removal1–2 days
Plumbing, electrics and gasDepending on the condition of the services
Tiling and flooring3–5 days, plus drying time
Fitting units and appliances1–3 days
Templating and fitting the worktop1–2 weeks after the base units are in
Painting, finishing and cleaningDepending on the job

In a full kitchen renovation, opening it up to the living room adds 1 to 3 weeks. Because we coordinate every stage, they overlap and the work finishes sooner than the sum of each one. You'll find the details in our guide on how long it takes to renovate a kitchen.

Which layout suits your kitchen

The shape of the kitchen determines how you work in it. These are the most common layouts and when each one fits:

  • Single-wall: everything along one wall. For narrow kitchens or an open-plan kitchen with little depth.
  • L-shaped: two walls at a right angle. It leaves the centre free and fits almost any medium-sized kitchen.
  • U-shaped: three walls. It offers the most worktop and storage if the kitchen is large and closed off.
  • Galley: two runs of units facing each other. Very practical in long kitchens; it needs a walkway of at least a metre.
  • With an island: a free-standing central unit for cooking, preparing food or eating. It calls for a large or open-plan kitchen.
  • With a peninsula: a counter joined to one run of units. It offers almost the same advantages as an island in less space and often acts as a divider with the living room.

If your kitchen is small, you'll find more ideas in how to renovate a small kitchen, and if it's an older one, in how to renovate an old kitchen.

Materials for worktops and kitchen units

The worktop is the part you use most and the one that makes the biggest difference to the result. These are the most common options:

Worktop materialProsBear in mind
LaminateThe cheapest, with lots of finishesDirect heat and cuts can damage it
QuartzHighly stain-resistant and easy to cleanBest not to put pans straight from the hob on it
Porcelain or sintered stoneWithstands heat, scratches and stainsMore expensive, with a longer cutting time
Granite and natural stoneVery hard, every slab is uniqueNeeds sealing from time to time
Solid woodWarm to the touch and repairableNeeds oiling and care around the sink

For kitchen unit doors, laminate is the cheapest and most hard-wearing, lacquer gives a smooth, even finish but shows knocks more, and wood adds warmth in exchange for more upkeep. For the floor of a kitchen that opens onto the living room, see our guide to parquet for kitchens and bathrooms.

How we handle your kitchen renovation, step by step

  1. We listen to your idea

We visit the kitchen, take measurements and talk about how you use it: who cooks, how many of you eat there and what's missing today.

  2. We design your new kitchen

layout, units, worktop, appliances and lighting, with plans so you can see it before we start.

  3. Fixed quote and schedule of works with dates

    with every item explained.

  4. We order the units and prepare the work

while they're being made, so there are no wasted days.

  5. Work coordinated by a technical architect

with our own team of builders, plumbers and electricians. We protect the rest of the house and leave the area tidy every day.

  6. Fitting, worktop and handover

We connect the appliances, go over every detail with you and give you the guarantee.

Permits and taxes for renovating your kitchen in Matadepera

Changing units, worktop and services without moving any walls only requires a prior notification of works (comunicació prèvia d'obres) to Matadepera Town Council. Knocking down a load-bearing wall to open up the kitchen requires a licence and a technical project.

What you're doingUsual procedureTechnical project
Changing kitchen units, worktop, appliances, wall finishes or flooringPrior notification of worksNo
Renewing plumbing, electrics or gas without moving wallsPrior notification of worksNo (gas work is certified by an authorised installer)
Opening the kitchen up to the living room by removing a non-load-bearing wallDepending on the case: prior notification or licenceDepending on the case
Removing or altering a load-bearing wallWorks licenceYes

How much is the ICIO tax in Matadepera

Matadepera charges 4% of the actual cost of the work (excluding VAT and professional fees) as the construction, installations and works tax (ICIO). For a €10,000 kitchen, the ICIO comes to €400. The rate is set in Matadepera Town Council's tax ordinance 2.5, in force since January 2025.

We prepare and submit all the paperwork for you.

What we check during the visit, before designing

These points decide what can be done and how much it will cost, so we check them before drawing anything:

  • Whether the wall you want to remove is load-bearing.
  • The condition of the pipes and the sink waste.
  • Your contracted electrical power, if you're switching to induction or adding appliances.
  • Extraction for the cooker hood: whether there's a duct to the outside or a recirculating hood is needed.
  • Water supply and waste points if you want to move the sink or the dishwasher to the island.
  • The actual measurements of walls and corners, which are rarely square.
  • Appliances you want to keep, so we leave exactly the right gap for them.
  • In a flat: where the building's extraction duct runs and at what times the residents' community allows noisy work.

Frequently asked questions about kitchen renovations in Matadepera

Can't find the answer you're looking for? Tell us about your project and we'll help.

How much does a kitchen renovation in Matadepera cost?

Between €2,500 and €6,000 for a basic renovation, between €8,000 and €15,000 for a mid-range one and from €15,000 for a full kitchen renovation with a new layout, for an average-sized kitchen. After the visit we give you the exact figure in writing.

How long does it take to renovate a kitchen?

The work takes 3 to 20 working days, depending on the type of renovation. The total timescale is 2 to 8 weeks because it includes the design and making the units, which takes 3 to 6 weeks.

Do I need a licence to renovate my kitchen in Matadepera?

If you don't touch any walls or the structure, no: a prior notification of works is enough. If you remove a load-bearing wall, you need a licence with a technical project. We handle the paperwork.

Can I open my kitchen up to the living room?

Yes, in most houses and flats. First we check whether the wall is load-bearing: if it isn't, the work is straightforward; if it is, you need a technical project and a licence, and it takes longer.

How much space does an island need?

As a guide, at least a metre of clear space on each side to open drawers and move about comfortably. If you don't have that, a peninsula offers almost the same advantages and takes up less room.

Is it worth switching from gas to induction?

It usually is: induction heats up quickly, it's safer and the hob wipes clean in seconds. First we check your contracted electrical power, as it may need increasing.

Which worktop is the most hard-wearing?

Porcelain or sintered stone is the one that best withstands heat, scratches and stains. Quartz is highly stain-resistant, but it's best not to put pans straight from the hob on it.

Which cooker hood should I fit if there's no extraction duct?

A recirculating hood, which filters the air through activated carbon filters and returns it to the kitchen. It extracts less than a hood ducted to the outside, so if a duct can be run through the façade or the roof, that's the better option. In a house it's usually possible; in a flat it depends on the building.

Which flooring works best in a kitchen that opens onto the living room?

One that withstands water and stains and can run uninterrupted into the living room: porcelain tiles, vinyl or water-resistant laminate. That way the kitchen and the living room read as a single space. You'll find the options compared in our guide to parquet for kitchens and bathrooms.

Can I reuse my appliances?

Yes. If they're in good condition, we measure them and leave exactly the right gap in the new units.

Will I be without a kitchen during the work?

During the days on site, yes. That's why we order the units before starting: it keeps the kitchen out of action for as short a time as possible. If it's your second home, we do the work while you're away.

Can I see what the kitchen will look like before work starts?

Yes. We prepare plans showing the layout, the units and the materials you have chosen, so you can see it before approving the quote. [VERIFICAR: whether a 3D render is also provided]

Can I pay for the renovation in instalments?

Yes, we offer payment in instalments. We explain the terms along with the quote. [VERIFICAR: terms]

What guarantee does the renovation come with?

The kitchen is handed over with a guarantee and after-sales service. If a defect in the fitting or the services appears with use, we check it and put it right.

Do you also renovate the bathroom at the same time?

Yes. Doing the kitchen and the bathroom in the same job saves a second set-up on site and a second round of paperwork. You'll find the details on our bathroom renovations in Matadepera page.

Do you work on my estate?

Yes. We go anywhere in Matadepera, whether it's the centre, Can Duran, Els Rourets, La Barata or any other residential estate.
